SCLC Involvement

In 1963 became Assistant Director of Affiliates, Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), Rev. C.T. Vivian, Director. Assisted Rev. C.T. Vivian with SCLCs Educational Experimental Program entitled”Project Vision" in 10 churches in Birmingham, AL, with high school graduates. Arranged for these graduates to attend college. Program now called "Upward Bound".

Selected by the late Dr. Martin Luther King to serve on the Woodlawn Organization's (T.W.O.), Chicago, Il. staff as an organizer to study the techniques of Saul Alienky.
Community organization consultant for poverty programs in Syracuse, NY, Wilmington, DE, Indianapolis, IN, and Boston, MA.
Fellow, Metropolitan Applied Research Center, founded by Dr. Kenneth Clark.
Former SCLC Project Director in the largest major voter registration drive in Cleveland OH, which elected Carl Stokes the first Black Mayor in an urban city.
Former National Housing Director for SCLC, and Executive Staff Member of SCLC
Projector Director, Newark, NJ, Poor People's Campaign. Brought the first group of poor people to build Resurrection City from Memphis, TN, and Marks, MS., with Rev. James Bevel of SCLC and Rev. Ralph Abernathy, President, 1968.
Brought the first model affordable home to Chicago. Developed by Amish Community in Nappanee, Indiana. This home was dedicated in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Lawndale community on the west side of Chicago on Roosevelt & Independence, where we once lived with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
